Short-Eared Owl at Twilight
In the dying light of a winter's day, a ghostly silhouette emerges from the rough grass.
The moment I took this photo remains one of my most memorable wildlife encounters. A short snowstorm had been forecast, and I headed out in the adverse weather to set up for the shot. After waiting in the snow for a few hours, just as the light had faded, this short-eared owl emerged and began hunting over the scrub.
