Summer Doe
A young doe pauses on the edge of a meadow, the burgeoning grasses providing her cover as she grazes. Her back is still downy as she sheds her winter coat in preparation for the season to come.
I’ve spent the last few years following the deer population in this area, and this hay meadow is my favorite place to watch all the dramas of the year: struggling over winter as a herd, separating to give birth and raise fawns, and the intensity of the summer rut. As the deer have grown accustomed to my presence, I've been lucky enough to watch these moments play out across the farm.
