Rockpool Predator
Nestled in a crevice in the rockpool, a shanny hunts for its next meal. Its mottled colouring helps it avoid predation by seabirds while feeding on the invertebrates trapped by the low tide.
Rockpool photography presents a unique set of challenges, particularly when photographing species that are more timid at low tide. Using a waterproof housing and a remote trigger, I concealed the camera among the seaweed and waited for the shanny to emerge and forage.
